Off white kitchen cupboards - cream or white metro tiles?

In a kitchen where the cupboards are off white should my tiles be white or cream? The cream in question being very similar to the cupboards and more off white than cream. Both would have light grey grouting.
Walls are pale green, work tops oak, floor wood, sink Belfast.

I'd go for pale grey actually! Or a lighter shade of the wall colour.

White with a grey (gunmetal) grout. Or light grey tiles with white grout (but dirt would be more likely to show up on white grout)...

A warm neutral that tones with the oak would be my first thought.

I think it depends if you want the tiles to blending or be more of a feature. If you want them to blend in then I wouldn't choose grey grout. We have a similar dilemma with vanilla units and Dulex Timeless walls. I went to the tile shop to get some samples and interestingly the ones I thought would look best (most similar to vanilla) didn't. I would suggest getting some samples so that you can see them in situ with your light.

I've gone for white with a grey grout. They're not up yet!

PlainHunting · 30/05/2015 11:44

I'd go for grey

Sunnyshores · 31/05/2015 11:40

White if you have to have white or cream. But I think grey would be better.

I have alabaster coloured units and I went with white metro tiles and light grey grout. Looks fab! I thought cream coloured tiles were too matchy matchy and the whiteness of the white tile really freshnes it up.

AnnaLP · 04/06/2015 15:30

Better to go for a contrast than something similar to the units otherwise it could look like you tried to match them but failed. White looks good but I agree with TeddyBee, why not a different shade of the wall colour - that would be softer than white, which can be a bit harsh.

Definitely get samples and check them out in natural and electric lighting, tiles tend to look very different in your own home than in the showroom.

I would really avoid going for white and cream together - they never look right. And white tiles with white cupboards is very risky as there are so many shades of white that one wmight make the other look dirty, or off coloured. I would go for a contrast, or at least for another neutral colour where the difference is distinct and noticable.

Also too much white can look really cold and clinical. i have a hatred of white kitchens paired with anything white black or grey. Much better to have some warmth to offset the stark white with some wood tones or coloured tiles/walls.
