Had new front door and cladding and panel fitted a few days ago. Had been able to see out of the slightly frosted glass in the old door and adjacent glass panel. Came back to the house to find that the frosted glass in the new door panels and the large panel next to it, is so frosted, as it were, that, while light comes through, you can't see anything, even the shape of things, on the other side of the glass.
Great for privacy but I find it quite unsettling. We hadn't discussed the type of frosted glass with the builder, other than the dimensions. Perhaps our fault, but I'm not sure what to do. I'd have preferred to be able to at least make out who's on the other side, before opening the front door, rather than popping into the kitchen, peering out and then going to the door. DH has mentioned a peep hole but somehow I find those a bit odd. Or are they? Has anyone else gone from an expanse of virtually see through glass at the front to what seems like a hermetically sealed small vestibule without being able to make out, in any shape or form, who's behind the door? I'm not naturally suspicious and we live, thankfully, in a safe neighbourhood but this really is going to take some getting used to.
Other question: the builders put in a cat flap, at our request. They'd been going to show us the catalogue for sizes but, in the end, just put one in and when we tried to entice our cat through it, realised that it was too small. They're now saying something about the next size up being a dog flap (though I'm not sure they're right, there is a large cat flap available and it's just that they went ahead and put in a smaller size). A dog flap? Our cat isn't that big!
Many thanks!
