Choosing a new TV in nice surroundings?

Hi, I am thinking of buying a turntable for my vinyl; so happens there is a nice specialist shop in my town where you can settle back and try some out. Back in the day there used to be the Cornflake Shop in London where you could do the same.

However, for a new TV it seems to be the same old thing where you head up to John Lewis or even Richer Sounds, and the picture just looks rubbish on all of them... Often it will be a stressy, unlovely experience, thanks to all the noise of different TVs blaring and all the crowds at JL, or if at Richer Sounds it's all a bit pokey. None of them recreate the experience of sitting in your lounge with a coffee or glass of wine...

Why is the TV reception so awful in these stores? I am none too familiar with flatscreens (sorry) but at most homes I visit the reception is fine, but in store it just doesn't look right. Am I really supposed to spend a grand or more when the picture looks rubbish, just on Which's say so?

I know of a Bang & Olufsen store in St Paul's where you do get an idea of how great the TV will look, and the reception is great there, but of course those tellies are around five grand starting point...

Does anyone know of any boutique TV stores where you can chill out a bit and sample the sets as they will actually look in your home?
