Is there anything I can do about this?!

slugs must have damp, so find the source of the damp (plumbing leak, damaged or bridged DPC, cracked walls, rainwater penetration) and fix it.

Meanwhile, use slug pellets, spread thinly. You can put them under and beneath furniture, kitchen units and appliances where they will be out of reach of inquisitive kittens and toddlers.

Thanks. we've had ongoing problems with condensation in the house but this is currently under control with a new ventilation system. I really have no idea what else to try. it is so frustrating!

if the slugs (and damp) are near the kitchen or drains, there may be a plumbing leak.

Salt - just sprinkle it liberally around the edges of the walls - much safer than slug pellets if dc are around

Sorry to hijack but I have a slug related question.
Whenever I clear anything from under the couch (kids toys/socks/slippers) they have slug trails on them.

Haven't seen any slugs, and can't see where they could be coming from. Please please please tell me they're not living in my couch don't want to hear the answer

Do you have any pets? Slugs go after pet food left in plates overnight. make sure there is nor food left lying around, and put a trail of salt around all edges.

Dexter - doubt they're in your couch - your children wouldn't have bought snails into the house would they?

DextersMistress · 15/05/2015 09:15

No Hee. Glad to hear they're probably not in the couch though Smile

Hi, no, no pets. it is an oldish house and I think there are probably loads of places they can be getting in, so no chance of sealing the place up! I will try the copper wire idea, but I fear they may be coming up from under the floor rather than in through a door or something (the doors are all new and well-sealed), so it will be harder to use.

They can get under the tiniest gaps in skirting boards. I find making a salt solution up in a spray bottle and squirting it all around the bottom of the skirts stops that without having a pile of salt sat there.

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea, I'll try that!
