Loft beams

We are having the loft insulated but we have to remove the boards first. A few boards are too big to remove so my husband placed them directly above the roof beams which are horizontals. I don't feel comfortable with the boards up there as I'm worrying about damaging the structural support. Am I worrying about nothing because my husband would not take them down.

The joists are not intended to carry a lot of weight, it depends how many there are, if it's a pile of thick boards placed in the centre of the joists it might not be ideal. Watch out for the plaster cracking in the ceiling directly beneath the boards. If he's stacked them up above or close to the supporting wall then it'll be fine.

I should have said he placed the boards on the hanging beams. I'm not sure what they are called. Does not make a difference?

I'm not sure what you mean by hanging beams, sorry

I think they are called underpurlins. Those horizontal beams attached to the rafters? I have no idea about building structure at all?
