Carbon monoxide alarm clicking?

SeattleGraceMercyDeath · 05/05/2015 22:12

Couldn't think of an appropriate topic for this one so its in property, sorry if it's not the best place.

We have a carbon monoxide alarm in the kitchen, high up above the door, occasionally you can hear it clicking, not alarming, clicking, like a Geiger monitor iykwim?

Any ideas why?

Geiger counter? You know, the clicky thing! I think that is what it's called?

I hope you don't need a geiger counter in your kitchen!

what do the instructions say? Is the 'working' light flashing as it should?

SeattleGraceMercyDeath · 05/05/2015 22:15

I don't have the instructions unfortunately (rented house), it's branded with a British Gas logo, I wonder if there is an instruction manual on t'interweb?

battery running out?

SeattleGraceMercyDeath · 05/05/2015 22:20

No I don't think so, it doesn't click all the time and from a quick google search it should 'chirrup' rather than click when the battery is going. None of the lights are lit up that shouldn't be. I'm just baffled.

Our smoke alarm was doing something similar. No idea why but we replaced it. Ask your landlord to have a look at it.

I think it will be up to us to sort it as hopefully as of next week we will own the house! I might just replace it.

Ours used to click, but everyone kept saying it was fine. (Replaced it with another that also clicked and replaced batteries.)
When we got the fire removed a couple of years later we discovered the welding on the pipe was faulty and was leaking gas into the room.
I guess the alarm on it would have gone off if it had become dangerous, so it was fine, but even so .... !

Our fire alarm started doing this! We got a replacement sent as it was due to corrosion in the detector. Probably best to get a new one as our fire alarm didn't work when I tested it

We had one that British Gas supplied us with. It stated on it that the batteries couldn't be replaced, so we just bought another one. Either way, I think you should buy another one to be on the safe side.

Sadly, I used to know someone who died from CO poisoning. The flat she was in subsequently caught fire and she could only be identified by dental records.
