Builders Coming Soon...Any tips!!!

Okay, so we have the builders coming in soon to make some er re-arrangements should I say! basically there will be some dust, quite a bit really (chimney stack taken down) and a 3rd bedroom created and a new window put in! We're currently in a 2 bed semi detached.

We've 100% confidence in the builder and assured a cost.

Any tips on what prep we could/should do would be appreciated like anything we should move from the current bedrooms, clothes or furniture? or would dust sheets be suffice? are we better sleeping downstairs? those sort of things. Thanks in advance!

Forgot to add, the builder reckons it'll take about a week.

Don't underestimate the amount of dust there will be, we are coming the end if an extension/renovation and it is everywhere!!
We moved our more expensive stuff into garage or upstairs, does not matter how many times you dust it will just come back, according tom out builders this will be the case fir several weeks.
Few more tips:
Big a BIG bix of tea bags and large coffee and let builders help themselves
Buy sugar cubes instead if loose sugar as it will go everywhere (got that tip off mn )
Replenish biscuits regularly to keep trades happy
Try and touch base with builders whenever possible though this has been hard with us both working thankfully I could in school hols as I'm a teacher
Loads of other tips on here if you search

Just realised your second post, most stuff not relevant then Smile
Btw if they say one week it will be two!

We have builders in at the moment, an extension and other bits involved. Taking 12-16 weeks, eek!

The builders have brought all their own dust sheets and protective coverings.
They have also brought their own kettle, tea/coffee/sugar/milk, biscuits, food, etc.

Everything is dusty on the floor they are working on - some of it is travelling, though not too horrendous yet.

We have moved things as and when we have needed too. If you have room, get as much out as you can - its easier if you can do much of it in advance.

A week, well please report back on the accuracy of that timescale...Wink

Tips, try to stay sane and only have one meltdown a week.

Great tips, thanks!

We're having the work done in the school hols - so we're all off, but I plan to get kids out of the house as much as I can so OH can be here with the builders, there is only the 2 of them.

It's one of those times where you really just want a magic wand isn't it!

Defo keep kids out as much as possible, it's one big adventure for them but nightmare for you. Our builders have been great and loved the kids but probs best if they aren't in the way also your builders will probs supply dust sheets too

Our builder has a key and lets himself in and out. He project manages the other trades. We are at work during the day so simply can't be there to supervise.

I'll do my best not to get stressed.....ha ha!

A week to ten days, said our builder. We're not having an extension, its just making a rather large bedroom into two so just putting up a stud wall, I say just, but its never that easy! But there is a partial wall to come down and the chimney stack. So yes I expect delays and surprises!

Roll on Summer, when this is over, maybe my head will stop hurting!
