Boring boiler question for a Monday - sorry!

Our boiler is kinda on the blink. It's a combi boiler which I hate with a passion but that's for another thread. Keeps switching itself off when heating is on, red light comes on and I have to switch it off and on again to reset it. Only started happening the other day.

Now I phoned my plumber, but he said best thing to do was get a boiler care plan as the price to fix it independently might cost a packet. Is this a good idea?

Any recommendations? I've seen a few threads in the past with people saying what companies to steer clear of, but I can't remember the names of them! Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

If you've got this far, well done for staying awake Grin

Do you have it serviced annually? If not, it might just need a bit of tlc, which shouldn't be too expensive.

I don't know a great deal about service plans, but I'd be very wary of anyone who tried to actively sell me one. Also, depending on the age of the boiler, beware for what is not included...

Thanks mono - we only moved into the house in July, the boiler was serviced 2 years previous to that.

could it be something as simple as an air pocket in the system? If i were you i would bleed the radiators and see what happens.

Id be wary of a service plan though as its a pre-existing problem it might not be covered.

Try to see if the MNer PigletJohn is around at the moment. He is the expert on all things like this - and is always willing to offer his help and expertise.

If you post in Property/DIY www.mumsnet.com/Talk/property you might 'catch' him more quickly.

Good luck.

If be inclined to ask some friends to recommend someone local and reputable and get him/her out for a service. Hopefully something minor and easily fixable.

Thank you everyone Smile

I'll try to find PigletJohn - I've seen his posts before right enough.

Might just try to get someone out to service it and have a wee look.

More £££££!

Hi everyone - we're just going to pop this thread over the Property/DIY at the OP's request.

you could call BG and see if they will give you a fixed-price repair.

I have no idea what the fault is.

The make, model and age might help someone, as might the fault code (if any).
