Bathroom tiling indecision

ToBeeOrNot · 26/04/2015 09:14

I have to make a decision on what bathroom tiles (floor and wall) to get today.

Bathroom is 1.7 x 2.1 m, leaning towards off white/greys.

Looking for inspiration ...

This designer advocates for white subway tiles. www.mariakillam.com/one-more-reason-you-should-skip-accent-tiles-altogether/
She argues anything else will look dated much too quickly.
Pinterest is a great place for inspiration.

Personally, i think subway tiles will be 'of an era' far more quickly than most other things. Not a fan. Not intending on any sort of accent tiles either.

It shouldn't be a complicated decision, I just need to decide on one type of tile for the floor and one for the wall but it seems I'm incapable! :-)

Subway tiles are hideous. They remind me of men's public lavatories.

BlardyBlaaaaa · 26/04/2015 09:37

We have gone for very light blue metro tiles. I think they look lovely!

I actually find it really hard to judge off photos off the internet. A lot of what I've seen online has ended up looking quite different in person. So any showroom recommendations in the East Midlands area appreciated

Would Malvern be too far for you?

ToBeeOrNot · 26/04/2015 12:15

Probably a bit far

I think metro tiles are timeless I have been using at work for 20 odd years and people still love them There are some lovely alternatives though if you aren't keen I like pale grey matt squares no borders or anything with a slightly darker floor. Mandarin Stone has some nice ones

noddyholder · 26/04/2015 13:33

www.mandarinstone.com/products/_/63/faux-stone/ these are great always look good when done

What I think we'll end up with is something v. similar to that.

'Pebble' (pale grey) on the walls, with a charcoal on the floor, same tile size and both matt.

Although may just end up going really bland and getting these

Yes, we went there but they seemed to be doing a big showroom refurbishment so not much to see.

I agree there is a lot to be said for bland if you want your bathroom not to be an eyesore after 5 years. Hang up some pictures if you want something interesting! Plain colour and a subtle interesting texture would be great.

ToBeeOrNot · 29/04/2015 10:58

In an ideal world I'd have white tiles, but would not have the whole room tiled. However layout means that there's no sensible place to stop tiling without it looking odd so it will be fully tiled
