Painting tiles in kitchen?

Morning all. ....had anyone had any success in doing this? I've been living for the last five years with yellow/beige tiles and think the whole kitchen would look far more modern and bright if they were white. Not much cash so was thinking of painting them as tiles are in good nick and where they need to be. ...will that look really naff or is there some amazing paint out there? !

I've painted beige kitchen tiles white. Looked fine - White is good, because you don't have to pick out the grouting.

You can get special tile paint, and I think there was primer too. Have a look in a big B&Q for all the options.

Good luck.

fantastic, thank you! so you'd recommend a proper tile paint and primer?

123 bullseye primer and zinsser permawhite anti mould paint. 2 coats of each. Do thin coats to avoid drips. I did the cupboard carcasses too.

Did mine 2 years ago and they still look amazing. You can really scrub them and the paint is solid.

Make sure you sugar soap thoroughly first and use a scoured. Use a paint brush to make sure paint gets into grout and use a gloss roller to get a smooth finish on the tiles. I found brushing the paint on first and then rolling it smooth was the best way.

People thought mine were genuine white tiles they really come up well.

Thank you. ...Great recommendation! I'll go have a look in b&q this morning!

I used the zinsser paint and was very impressed with it. It also dried quick and didn't smell as much as gloss does. I couldn't see if in B&Q though so bought it from Screwfix.

quickly not quick, and it not if. That'll teach me not to preview before posting!

Yep couldn't see it in b and q so will try screw fix. ...Thank you! Is it best to apply with a roller?

Apply with brush and then use a gloss roller to smooth out. You won't get into the grout ridges with just a roller.

I've done this and it looks fine.
