What do I need to do to make house sellable??

Hi everyone,

We are hoping to put our house up for sale just after the bank hol. Our neighbour put their house up for sale on Monday and a sold sign went up last night.

We are putting fresh paint everywhere apart from bedrooms and hall due to carpet and not very good painting skills.

Obviously big tidy.

Any other tips????

Any recommended estate agents/tips with estate agents?

Well, unless your house is an absolute tip, then it will also sell asap. Smile

Look at your front garden (fnarr, fnarr) How attractive is it? Tidy the garden.

Light switch panels should be clean.

Put lights on in rooms when viewing.

No pet bowls or litter trays.

No plug-in smellies. Makes it look like the house has pong problems as the last two houses I looked at, and bought, did.

No water marks on baths, washbasins, sinks, baths or showers.

Oh no. I love plug in smellies!!! Perhaps I will subtly place those gooey ones in plastic containers. The house smells of our dogs arse.

Garden has just been redone at the front. It's all stones and low maintenance. Extremely pretty. Back and front garden on way to completion.

Bath tiles are a little mouldy in the grout. I need to correct that don't i. How??? Confused

Cover the tiles and grout in straight bleach and leave it to work for an hour or so before rinsing. Sorts mouldy grout right out.

sianihedgehog · 24/04/2015 09:45

Unless you mean that the silicone sealant around the edge of the tiles is mouldy? If you mean that, try the bleach thing, but if it doesn't work you'll need to remove the silicon, clean, and reapply it.

SweepTheHalls · 24/04/2015 09:45

Dettol mould remover is brilliant provided you ignore the timings and leave it on for a few hours.

Both unfortunately. I re siliconed it before. It looks terrible so will do that. Just googled, bicarb and bleach seems to be the one. Can't wait haha

If you are moving anyway, and will be packing your own stuff into boxes, take the opportunity to clear out and take to the charity shop anything you aren't taking with you to your new home.

It'll make the "tidy up for a viewing" sessions a lot more bearable!

Yup to all of the above.
Kerb appeal! The front of the house is the first thing buyers see.

wash/ paint the front door and flowers in window boxes/ by the path or however your front is laid out.

Brew up some coffee and make the house smell of baking if you want to go that far. fresh fruit in the bowl and declutter completely.

how exciting, good luck!

Bicarb and bleach - but you must ventilate the room well or you could collapse.
Try not to breathe in the fumes.
