Patios: anyone have experience of slate or limestone?

Somewhat confused patio stone searches have brought us to the conclusion that slate or limestone is what we want for the small patio at the back of our Victorian mid-terrace. The slate we're looking at is a riven green slate, and the limestone is called "kota blue". Both are from London Stone.

Anyone have any advice on the pros and cons of the slate and limestone in general though? Do they get manky, and if so how easy are they to clean? Is slate slippy, as people keep muttering to me, or being riven mean that's not such an issue? First baby is on the way so eventually there will be tiny feet on this patio.

And does anyone know of anywhere else in east, north or south east London (or just outside London) and see a full range of patio paving laid out, i.e. so you can really get a sense of what it looks like? Some of the Bradstone ones looks nice to me online, but I'm not spending that much money without seeing them in flesh and can't find a stockist with a proper display (or even one that even has any slabs in stock).

We got our paving from london stone. They have a showroom in west London from what I remember, where all of they stone is laid out and you can have a look. They are expensive but great quality. We bought the beige sawn sandstone which is beautiful but a little like having a cream carpet outside! It was fine until we got a dog!
Whatever you get, buy a pressure washer. They are amazing and it will look like new after it's been washed and you only need to do it a few times a year...
I would say that if you are getting slate you might be able to find somewhere cheaper than London stone - but their stuff is lovely!
