The work on our kitchen starts in 2 weeks and I still haven't decided the following:

  • The exact configuration of bi-fold doors. Know the company that is supplying and they have a 7 day turnaround. Waiting for builder to come tomorrow to discuss and then we will go to the showroom and place the order this saturday.
  • The exact (built-in) appliances that we will have. I have a list that i am awaiting prices for from a number of retailers. So I know the makes/models they could be but haven't agreed the exact ones yet.
  • Laminate flooring: I have a number of samples that still need to make a decision on. The supplier has everything in stock and guarantees delivery within 48 hours.

Tiles. Once again have narrowed down to a few but have still not made final decision. The place we are buying from has a depot a mile away from us and i have checked that what we want is in stock and is available immediately after ordering.

There is minor building work that needs to be done first (knocking down an internal and an external wall, bricking up a window. So I don't expect builders to be in a position to start working on installing anything until week commencing 11th May.

Am I really pushing it? I go between panicking that I don't have enough time to get everything ordered in time to thinking it will be fine.

Builders coming tomorrow to discuss the job in great detail before they start so can ask them all this at the time. But not sure if they will think i'm an idiot for leaving things so late or won't be fazed...

I think if you know what you want and the lead times in that much detail you will probably be OK. If you'd said you hadn't decided on where to put the sink or the window that might be different.

Ask the builder if anything on your list is critical path and needs an early decision. Also suppliers have a horrible way of suddenly running out of what you thought was guaranteed 3 day delivery - but that's life.

Don't be too last minute and discover something doesn't fit in its space or needs a bigger power supply or something like that.

The layout and the kitchen/worktops is set and has been ordered and is due to be delivered when the builder/fitter has asked for them. It's just the other stuff. The only thing I'm slightly worried about is the bi-folds. Do they usually go in before or after the kitchen?

Normally it best to get a room weather tight and plastered and reasonably dry before putting in kitchen. So yes doors windows electrics plumbing and any permanent flooring all first. Your builder should advise on this though.

Our bifold doors were a whole day to put in with much scratching of heads and peering at instructions.
