NW people - any good tips for Wirral house hunt?

WouldLoveANiceHouse · 17/04/2015 11:05

NC'ed so as not to out myself geographically!

We're hoping to buy a house on the Wirral in the next 12 months.

Would dearly love to hear any tips from Wirral residents or regular visitors, past or present.

We only need 3 bedrooms (a 4 bed would be lovely, but definitely not 'necessary'), and we don't need a big garden. Am hoping our rather unimpressive budget will therefore manage something decent!

Budget is £130k-£145k. Perhaps could look at £150k and see if owners are feeling flexible.

Any thoughts on good locations or actual properties you've spied would be great. We have a one year old so obviously thinking of schools and we don't know anything about that.

In terms of neighbourhood am just looking for something pleasant and leafy-ish with a decent café or two. That's not much to ask, I hope!

In terms of house, I love a character house, but I realise with our budget we can't afford to be too picky. No offence to those that own one, but my heart sinks at pebbledash and there seems to be a lot of it around!

We've visited and a lot of areas seem a bit 'run down'. Where should we be looking?

Imperial thanks from the outside that's a nice house in Bebington too (the one with only one pic. Why do they that?!)

Probably unfit for habitation inside! The owners might not have been in when the photographer called, so he/she just took a picture of the outside so they could show it on the site.

This is what Port Sunlight looks like, by the way!

Oh wow - lovely Z!

So I take it the Lever factory isn't the smoke belching kind?

OP posts:
Zhx3 · 17/04/2015 16:38

I don't remember any smoke! The lorries enter the site through an entrance on the A41, so you mainly only get cars and small vans going through the Port Sunlight entrance. Anyway, here's a picture of the entrance Smile.

I've PM'd you, OP.

ImperialBlether · 17/04/2015 16:41

The advantage of somewhere like Bebington/Port Sunlight is you could commute to either Liverpool or Chester for work.

AtAmber · 17/04/2015 16:50

Wallasey Village and by Grove Road are both nice.

WouldLoveANiceHouse · 17/04/2015 19:00

The entrance does look nice! Smile

You do get more for your money in Neston as it doesn't have a direct rail link, but Hooton station is a ten min drive and there are loads of trains from there. It's also fine to drive as it's just straight up the M53.

How about this? Character and the area is nice: www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-33559413.html

Or this: www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-48814652.html

Neston is a nice friendly place, good schools, couple of nice cafes, near Chester for great shopping, lovely walks along the estuary.

WouldLoveANiceHouse · 18/04/2015 10:22

Squidgy Neston is lovely, I've been there. It's a shame about no train but I guess that's why it's more affordable.

That first one is fab - I love this kitchen! www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-33559413.html

I think Neston does have a train station but no direct trains to liverpool, you have to change.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 18/04/2015 12:17

It's about 18/19 years since I lived near there Wouldlove and I can see that the old fashioned shoe repairer is still in business just along the road Grin

I brought my children up in Ness and Parkgate and it was lovely back then, am not up to date though.

Was browsing to reminisce and saw this house
Port Sunlight house
which is nothing to do with me, but I thought the road looked lovely with green spaces very close, schools and the train station close and the house has a sunny courtyard plus bags of character. If something like that would come at the right price there's the opportunity to further improve it as and when too.

ImperialBlether · 18/04/2015 12:30

That is a lovely house, Enrique.

WouldLoveANiceHouse · 18/04/2015 14:07

Gorgeous Enrique. The history buff in me loves the fact it has its two little privies in the back too.

One would be a coal shed, WouldLoveANiceHouse. My house had a coal shed and an outside loo when I moved in, too.

WouldLoveANiceHouse · 18/04/2015 15:42

Good point Imperial - a single house wouldn't have two! I remember seeing two side by side, but they were for the whole street.

En jardin bathroom facilities!

NeedANewDirection · 18/04/2015 16:06

Was just coming on to say bebington, Oxton, Prenton, Port Sunlight and Wallasey, but been beaten to it :)

You won't get what you want in heswall as its £££. Hoylake is next to west kirby and regarded as up-and-coming, worth a look.

NeedANewDirection · 18/04/2015 16:11

Lots of Port Sunlight houses just have yards instead of gardens, but a few have a lawn. I used to live there, factory isn't an issue at all. Lots of tourists though. And all grade 2 listed so quite restrictive. Worth it for a fab location imho though

crispycake · 18/04/2015 16:30

I grew up very close to New Brighton.
Wallasey village is a nice area. Close to the seafront, beach, easy drive to the tunnel, trains into lpool. In NB there's now a pizza express, prezzo, Starbucks a couple of bars (I think, don't live there anymore but still visit family)
Good primary schools.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 18/04/2015 16:51

En jardin bathroom facilities!
Grin

I just think it's utterly lovely and with not much work to the kitchen could be even lovelier. All the bedrooms are good sizes too. So often the third is really tiny.

I've been up and down the road on Street View and been planning how to decorate the sunny courtyard Blush

I do miss the Wirral. Happy Days.

NeedANewDirection · 18/04/2015 17:27

Sone parts of Bromborough and Eastham are also nice

WouldLoveANiceHouse · 18/04/2015 17:28

Way out of our price range but vicarious browsing now.

En jardin bathroom facilities and look at the parquet flooring and oval window in the bathroom!

Love the little fireplace in the study too.

South Wirral (outside of borough, eg neston, parkgate) isn't in catchment for grammars
