Hight of midi kitchen units, can you get them smaller

As I understand it a midi kitchen unit is 1250mm high but are there any 'smaller' midi units and if so what is there hight?

Why I'm asking.

I'm installing a kitchen with a run of cabinets A,B,C,D,E.

A housing a tall integrated: fridge-freezer;
B housing a larder, both full size cabinets.

Here is my difficulty, C,D,E were designed as midi units to house the likes of a double oven and an intgrated micro, with the tops used to house a 48 inch TV and store books and a few nick-nacks .

On closer inspection I formed the opinion that watching a TV on a midi unit from the chairs at my island, and more specifically from the living quarter where sofa and comfy chair could be could be a strain on the neck if watching the TV for any length of time.

So I'm thinking are there smaller midi units and if so what height? If so I could perhaps make unit C into a full cabinet and house my double oven and microwave there, and if possible have D and E as 'smaller midi units' to set my TV and various nick-nicks on.

Is there any guidelines as to distance and height for watching TV?

It used to be 3 1/2 times the width of the screen away - and the central point of the TV to be at eye height when you are seated - but most prow sit closer to their TVs nowadays as they tend to be bigger !

Why not use base cabinets under the TV part ?or if you feel they are too short - high wall units on plinth height might be a good height .

One of my alternatives is to drop the midi units down to standard units and place the TV there.

I would have to concerns here: astetics - how would it look sitting on top of a work counter, would it be like an afterthought?

But more important I look after my nephews children for a few hours after school and wonder if they would be attracted to it. I'm thinking safety. Granted they don't touch it on my TV cabinet. I'm attaching my proposed kitchen layout

If you turn your island around 180degrees - you can swap your sofa and chair for an L shape sofa, positioned in the bottom left corner of the room, and you can mount the TV on the end of the island with a small overhang of worktop to stop you knocking it. ( would fit about a 32" screen). This way you will have sunshine on your back while at the bar and a view out of the window on bottom wall - or views through the opening doors to the garden if you like ... and your TV and fireplace will be the focus in the living end.

Could you use the doors of a 90cm high wall cabinet and get some midi base units cut down to fit? Then they would be 1050 to the top. You would have the advantage that a "proper" built in double oven (the sort that normally are at waist level) would fit in one.

PS I'd budge your sink one unit further "north" if you can - it will drive you nuts being that close to the hob. Lovely plan otherwise though - really clever with the island.

Yes that's something I was thinking about and part of the reason I asked about 'smaller midi cabinets.'

RaisingSteam are you in the business yourself, is that a difficult task for a kitchen outfit to undertake, and would it be a costly exercise.

As regards the sink I don't think so because that would be interfearing with my dishwasher. I had possibly thought though of turning the sink around and have the business part at the North end. I'm left handed anyway!!

I'm not in the business but I know that kitchen units are made of 6 pieces of chipboard and a kitchen fitter is a carpenter who should be capable of a simple alteration. Depending on where you order them from, you should be able to order a custom height unit or an unassembled/unglued unit to make it easier to cut down. This is a question to ask your supplier or fitter I expect.
