If you have a Belfast sink and love it...

Please come and extol its virtues. I'm really struggling. I've already marked it when I tried to wash the slow cooker, and the sink shows every but of dirt.
Feeling really ungrateful as it supposed the best etc. Sad

So no one loves them! Thought so!

Just sling some unenvironmentally friendly bleach in and leave it overnight - it'll look as good as new in the morning Smile

I used to have a double one in my old kitchen but when we redesigned it DH won the toss and got a stainless steel sink to replace it. I put a single Belfast in the utility room. Three years on the stainless steel sink is scratched and looks crap. The utility room Belfast sink looks good as new.

VeryPunny · 10/04/2015 12:14

I have one but it's a salad planter... Not what you want to hear! Got fed up of smashing stuff in it.

applecatchers36 · 10/04/2015 12:19

Am not sure I love it, it's a sink, but as sinks go pretty good & the best one we have had in our kitchen

Thanks all.
I've already put a mat on the bottom but it's the front edge I've scratched.
It is a double, and I keep looking across at the old stainless 1.5 sink that's now in the utility room and thinking how muchore practical that was. (opposite of JamesB above!)

Oh i love mine! I have a double and a single in my kitchen and another big single in the utility room. I find them easy to clean, just sprinkle some bicarb round them then rub in with a cloth and rinse, easy Grin Put them in my last house too and cleaned them the same way Smile

RaphaellaTheSpanishWaterDog · 10/04/2015 14:13

I love them, have had them in the last four houses (doubles and singles and had two at last house) and we're about to put one in here. We inherited a stainless steel sink when we bought this house in December and I personally think it's awful - scratches so easily, looks very dull and reminds me of my grandparents' old house......

Would never choose anything else!

catsrus · 10/04/2015 14:21

I've had the same one for over 20yrs - love it, nothing would make me part from it. Got a stainless steel one in a utility room and much prefer the Belfast one. My lovely friendly builder who was fixing a door tried to convince me to get rid of it when I talked about redoing the kitchen - he was very Hmm when I said I was redoing the kitchen AROUND the old sink Grin

Gusthetheatrecat · 10/04/2015 15:00

Just hopping on this thread to ask Belfast sink lovers: should I go for great big single (soaking big pans, washing small children in, etc) or a double? I am basically crowd sourcing my new kitchen through the wisdom of the Mumsnet hive mind.

catsrus · 10/04/2015 15:08

I've got the big, child washing, one. As you say, great for huge pans etc.

Mrsmorton · 10/04/2015 15:14

I've got a double and love it. Can soak and do normal stuff.

Putting a single in the utility room, they do look good and apart from smashing several wine glasses, they're v nice to use.

ceres · 10/04/2015 22:51

I don't understand how you have scratched it - what with?

I love our Belfast sink. In seven years I have never broken anything in it or scratched it. It's big enough to soak oven racks etc. when it gets a bit stained I fill it with either bleach and water or bio washing powder and water and leave for a couple of hours, works brilliantly.

Crossfitmyarse · 11/04/2015 05:54

I totally loved mine and was sad to lose it when we moved. I hate stainless steel sinks, they all look awful after about 6 months solid use. Belfasts clean up really well with bleach spray.

Crossfitmyarse · 11/04/2015 05:56

And yes modern sinks are too small for large racks, pans and oven trays. so infuriating trying to wash them without all the water going all over the worktop and floor. It would be a Belfast every time for me.

Put one of those rubber/plastic mats in the bottom (or just line it with an old tea towel and make sure you always use a washing up bowl so you don't scratch or chip the base if that's what you are worried about.

Crossfitmyarse · 11/04/2015 05:58

I would always go for a double, space permitting, but it's better to have one large sink than two that are both too small. A large sink with a small half-size one for slops next to it is a good option if you don't have space for a decent double.

Crossfitmyarse · 11/04/2015 05:59

Once a week I would fill mine to the brim with water and a good slug of bleach and leave it for a few hours and it would be gleaming and pristine again.

I miss it.

yeahokthen · 11/04/2015 06:20

I've got a double Belfast and love it. Don't think SS would look right in my painted kitchen. I did chip the side of the sink in my last kitchen banging about a Le Cruset so I wash heavy things in the utility room.
Also use a washing up bowl for decent glasses.

Adsss · 11/04/2015 07:28

Tall people do you find it hurts your back as the base is so much lower? My husband wants one but I suspect this will be the case. We are already having a slightly higher part on the island to compensate this.

ArcheryAnnie · 11/04/2015 07:32

I was looking at a belfast, but I think I'd end up breaking every bit of crockery I own.

Has anyone come across anywhere that sells enamel sinks? Because that's what I really want.
