50/60's Interior Design Help needed - pretty please

So we have a small plain kitchen - see photo for style of doors & handles, pale blue high gloss, chrome handles, grey worktop.

House was built in 1960. What kind of dining table would you go for?

I'm thinking I may have to get something made by this company

www.mattantrobus.co.uk/gallery.html with formica top and chromes splayed legs.

I also like this sort of thing shown below.

What else may work that you can find that seats 8 places comfortably on an every day basis. 6 seater table that extend to 8 often give you the leg in the way problem which has discounted most of what I've found so far Sad

I want something with a retro feel that will compliment the kitchen and not add even "more" styles into it as it is one large kitchen/diner/family room.

Any help gratefully received plus I don't really have £1k to spend on a table as I also have 8 chairs to find & buy!!!!

Oval is definitely a possibility, like the idea that you all get more elbow room than those sat on the straight stretch too.

We have a vintage G-plan table with matching chairs in our 1960s house. It looks just right and a bit of searching on ebay finds some reasonably priced ones.

Ok , so again , may not be your thing but what I have is more akin to the dark top version here , but I think it looks very good with 50s 60s type chairs with it . (tried to link but it is the smaller photo below if this has worked) As I say they are beyond practical - everyone fits round and also cleaning the kitchen floor v easy - no table legs Grin .

Anyhow your house sounds lovely. Wish you well.

Wharfside have some lovely Danish/Scandi designer tables but are ££££.

MrsJamin · 07/04/2015 08:27

Bluesuntree have a good range of mid-century tables.

I posted a similar question recently, I was looking for some mid-century style furnuture that had been discontinued in HoF. One of the lovely posters here recognised the range and found it on sale elsewhere.

They do a 6/8 seat extending table, I know you said you prefered 8 seat unextended but I don't think there are any legs in the way with this one...?

link

They do a walnut finish too.

random glad you pleasantly surprised by the conference tables. Some of the vintage wooden ones look amazing quality for the price. Have you searched under Habitat? Some of their old stuff might get you the look you after, cheaper and probably better quality than the new stuff.
Like Lelivre my heart lies with Ercol tbh, I have a 1960's set with chairs picked up on gumtree.
If you seen a table you like (legs/number of seats), but the top of it not right, would you consider using an oil cloth/table cloth? It might give you more options?

Billyhollymama · 07/04/2015 16:43

Ercol have their own web site where they sell end of line, display tables etc. You might find something there . We did. Ercol make their furniture in the same way they always did. The factory is near me. There is no magic date of pre 2000 for "better " Ercol. The woods change though and so do the finishes. We have some elm furniture of theirs and some oak.

I love my Hans Wenger Y chairs in oak but they were mighty expensive.

MrsJamin · 07/04/2015 17:56

Yes, Ercol have an Ebay outlet too - what about this table?

Apatite1 · 07/04/2015 19:18

I love all this mid century stuff, my house will be filled with them, right down to the wallpaper and the mustard cushions and teal sofas Grin. I'm going full on. Thanks for the links!

So much to look at...

DH has said that I HAVE to sell my "stuff to ebay" crap first (spoilsport) thought tbh it has moved house with us into rented then into new house so he has a point!

We've got our current table fully extended to fit 8-10 people and that is the size we need - 6 of us plus very regularly 2+ random children joining us for meals and so on and nowhere in the house to put extra chairs so they need to live around the table.

DH also made the good point about wanting something that isn't going to get spoilt easily (especially if £££) as art & crafts also get completed at the dining table - and I never want fabric chairs again, well do for comfort but not for the state the get in, would need to be ones easy to recover, or leather or something.

Lovely to have so many recommendation and advice though. I think we may consider a white gloss twin round pedestal conference table and I'll get a divine Ercol in a decade or so when we downsize and the dc are older have left
