several scratches on the new quartz which isn't even one week old Shock
not really surprised as it was a whole pile of plates, the smithereens flew to every corner of the room so quartz must be a hard material !!

anyone done the same and know any remedies ? tbh I'm a bit relieved it's only scratched because you can actually crack quartz with very heavy objects...

Hmm

No idea - I'm mainly here to commiserate... DP once smashed every plate and bowl we own in one go when he half-detached the rack putting them away, so I know the mixed frustration and semi-joy of urgently having to go and get new crockery!

It seems to me that if it was really awful you must be able to get it polished out - I've had marble floors polished up like new from some awful damage - mind you, they had a heavy machine, so they'd need some cunning way to apply force to a counter-top

Have you got accidental damage on your household insurance? You could claim for new crockery and to have your scratches sanded out.
Rotten luck

RaphaellaTheSpanishWaterDog · 03/04/2015 19:02

No advice, only commiserations OP.....

I, too feel your pain as we lost a load of glassware a few years back when an internal shelf within a free-standing larder-type cupboard collapsed sending shards of glass everywhere when I opened the door....prays to a god I don't believe in that this never happens to my crockery as I'm very attached to it.

Hope you find some lovely new plates and a solution to the Quartz scratches x

thanks so much guys for your kind commiserations..Smile
in the grand scheme of things there are worse things that can happen..
thanks for reminding me yeahok am going to update the insurance to include accidental damage ! a definite must for owners of new kitchens.

thanks again..

I, too, sympathise.

We bought a new rug about a month ago. We've rearranged the living room and have run out of money after a big building project so couldn't afford to replace the (very stained) pale blue living room carpet. After a very large search, we found the perfect rug. Pure wool and pale blue.

On the actual day we bought it, DH managed to knock a glass of red wine over onto it. I was not best pleased.

waving
somebody has to do the first scratch.

For my floor pic on my profile it was in fact the chippy before he'd finished laying the damned thing.
but it was not anybody in the house who could face later recriminations
For my worktops pic on my profile it was DH three days after we kicked the builders out
but hey
For my car it was as we got home from collecting it and the kids opened the door of one into the other
no pocket money that week

There are many things where you always remember the first time
learn to snigger about them

Oh dear. Many sympathies.

As we are building new, with all new appliances, crockery, linens, furniture bar some antiques, I'm somewhat apprehensive about who will be the first to damage the floor, the marble, spill on the carpet, break our wedding china etc etc it's going to be clumsy me

wavingfuriously · 03/04/2015 20:15

yes that exactly right TalkinPeace! Smile thanks. c'est la vie, everything gets tarnished sooner or later ..
good luck Apatiite, its not so bad..

Oh dear, poor you. I once tipped a whole pack of plates onto the floor while having a strop and announcing to Dh "I'm not stupid, I've got a degree".

Really hard to look intelligent surrounded by broken plates.

Apatite, my Dh kicked red wine on the lounge carpet and my first thought was "thank fuck it wasn't me" Grin

wavingfuriously · 03/04/2015 22:03

lol Fluffy Smile often felt like doing that..

Yikes! No suggestions but you do have my sympathies. I'm glad no one was hurt.
