Stainless steel worktop?

I'm keen on a stainless steel worktop with an integrated sink. Does anyone have one, or just a steel worktop by itself? Is it easy to maintain? Thanks!

I've worked with stainless worktops in a professional kitchen and it's one of the easiest things to maintain out there - why it's so popular in a pro kitchen!

If you've got a frantic house or don't want to care too much about maintenance stainless means you can place hot pans directly onto the surface, don't have to wipe anything up right away and there's no weekly oiling or sealing needed either.

Personally I think strategic stainless steel and mixed with other worktop materials is the perfect route to take.

They look pretty but I could never have one, the thought of it makes my teeth itch! Imagine putting a knife down on it sorry not what you asked.

I have had two, both from Blanco via John Lewis.

The first - a decade ago, was brilliant. Looked ace (if you don't mind scratches, which I love) and easy to clean. I wiped it with metal cleaner and then oiled it with baby oil every few weeks. You can put anything down on it, didn't really dent and was ace for pastry.

Latest one? I have little rust coloured discolouration patches on it six weeks in. I used wet wipes and metal cleaner on it. As it cost an absolute bloody fortune I've treated the marks and accepted that it's part of the look, but seriously, unless you want something that scratches, marks etc as it is used, don't go anywhere near it.

I do and yes !

I don't mind scratches, husband does but as the cook, I'm ignoring him. We are having granite on the island and thinking of SS on the countertops behind, with a dark mirror back splash. It looks good in my head anyway Grin. I do need a surface I can stick a hot pan onto, can't do that on granite.

I think I'll go for it, thanks all!

We have ss worktop with integrated sink (from Intra) on one worktop and oiled birch on the other. Very practical. We clean it with method ss spray.

Sounds good. Thanks calendula. I really like SS with other types of worktop.
