Should I go for cavity wall insulation?

Have thought about it for a while, but when I phoned British Gas about getting it done they said they wouldn't do it because we have stone round the door, wood under the front window and the rest cavity brick so we would get cold spots. We also have a condensation problem in one of our bedrooms, has an airbrick but no trickle vents and figured that would make it worse. I also read some articles online and was worried about our dormer wall as it bears the brunt of a lot of wind and rain and had read that the cavity wall insulation could become wet making a lot of problems for us.

Yesterday I got cold called from a man saying we were eligible for it and they were doing our through wall neighbour so sign up. I said to him about what BG said and he said nonsense. Said to him about condensation, he said just get trickle vents it will sort it out. He was one of these kind of salesmen that were annoyed that I wouldn't sign up straight away and I was the annoyed person in the house who lives in a no cold calling area with a sign on the door too, so he wasn't going to get anywhere with me on the doorstep. Didn't say to the guy about the dormer wall, next door don't have that problem, theirs would be sheltered in the main due to the way our houses sit.

What does anybody think, I could really do with some proper advice!

And sorry for lengthy post!

No? If you want to do it investigate firms yourself and invite them for a quote and then choose. Do not buy from the cold caller. I have heard CWI can cause a lot of issues especially in older properties but you should find this out and be satisfied yourself before employing anyone.

That's how I feel about it, the property isn't too old, 1959 build, but I'm still wary

Had the same dilemma recently, BG said they wouldn't do it because they couldn't see the dpc on one wall (it is there but he couldn't see it). The BG surveyor did say other companies would do it though and BG have really stringent rules. He said the Mark Group would do it. Lot of horror stories on the internet about them so I was really wary. Spoke to my neighbours who have almost identical houses and they had all had it done with no problems. Had it done a few weeks ago. Time will tell I suppose but it's a 1960s house and the plot is relatively sheltered from wind driven rain. Hope I don't regret it. The fact my neighbours had had it done with no issues was the main swaying factor.
