Marmoleum - yay or nay?

So do you think marmoleum is the stylish person's affordable and eco-chic style choice, or is it just going to look crap?

Anyone had it? We have had some old lino in places that we were initially sniffy about, but it is SOOOOOOO practical with children (easy to clean, they don't break their heads on it etc) and so are keen to do marmoleum as a slight step up. Obviously pinterest has tons of stylish hipsters and hot scandinavians slathering it over their incredibly gorgeous abodes to stunning effect, but can anyone give me any opinions on it in rl?

It will contrast with some real wood flooring that we are going to paint in f&b floor paint.

We had it in the kitchen of our UK house in the late 90s. Very nice indeed, though not as impervious to chemical stains as you might think, nail varnish remover is a pisser. Always always mop up instanter. But then that applies to all stains.

Well I got confused with mausoleum. Which is a niche thing for a home really. (Sorry, no help at all!)

I would've liked it but couldn't find it in a solid plain colour and I didn't want any sort of pattern. Would've defo gone for it otherwise though. I ended up with vinyl from here and it looks great.

We have it in our kitchen. Fab stuff, looks good, easy to maintain. I absolutely love it.

You can get Marmoleum in a solid plain colour now, the range is called Walton Uni and there are loads of colours.

I have just had my new extension and utility in Marmoleum, a lovely charcoal colour. It is fab, feels so silky underfoot and it is really easy to clean - it sort of slightly repels dirt. The new version has the polish topcoat already incorporated so you can just lay it and walk on it right away. It looks really lovely next to the wood flooring in the hall and our walls are F&B cornforth white.

You can choose from plain (Walton Uni) nearly plain, a little marbling (Fresco) marbled (Real) or very marbled (Vivace). We went for Fresco.

I would use it again in a heartbeat.

I like mine. Looks good, hides the dirt but easy to clean - perfect.

It's quite tricky to lay though, mine has gone a bit wavy. So make sure the fitter is experienced.

I haven't used it yet but would like to, so watching with interest. I'd like it for the living/dining room. Apparently the sheet requires specialised professional fitting, whereas the tiles are easier to install and more forgiving.

wonkylegs · 29/03/2015 21:46

I love it, I've used it commercially loads and would love to have a space I could use it at home

TwiggyHeart · 29/03/2015 21:49

My parents have it in their kitchen. The only thing to be wary about it putting any kind of rug/door mat on it because it will make the colour change (think it's something to do with it being oil based???). We were looking for new kitchen flooring and the person in the shop also mentioned the same thing to us.

Ah, gutted about that wildstawberryplace I didn't find it despite extensive searching. Should've asked here! Just found exactly what I would've had

This is great information, thank you everyone! Gutted about not putting a nice rug on it though.
