DH and I are going round and round in circles. We have a kitchen and a dining room adjacent to each other along the back of the house and want to knock through. The resulting room would be long and rectangular, about 3m by 8m approx. We had always thought we'd be able to fit kitchen at one end, dining table in middle and snug area (small L shaped couch) at other end.
Problem no. 1: There's currently a window, back door (in kitchen) and patio doors (in dining room) on all the back exterior wall. The window's above the sink, we'd keep that. The patio doors are never used and a bit dated and would look daft I think once the wall between them and back door is removed. Do we get a run of bifold with an opening end door, or replace patio with french doors or what? This decision affected by -
Problem no. 2: we have two pieces of furniture that have to be accommodated in new layout, a tall oak dresser and a bureau. (neither fit anywhere else and anyway, we like them). But we are struggling to do this AND keep a run of bifold doors or patio doors or whatever AND a sofa/snug area.
So, I think we are choosing between having a kitchen/dining/snug and a kitchen/dining/'garden room'. If you have a room like this, what do you love about it? We are in a damp and fairly chilly part of the country so in all honesty wouldn't be doing the 'outdoor living' thing much anyway and on sunny days now we just go in and out back door with no problems. cos we can never find patio keys
(The whole thing is complicated by the fact that if money were no object at all I'd reverse the room functions so that the patio/french/bifold doors could open on to the actual patio rather than it being under the current kitchen window. But that blows the budget out the water and therefore won't be done)
