Wickes kitchens

hello!

Looking at one of the above. Any experience of them? Pitfalls in the contract that we should look out for? (they don't take away the old kitchen unless you pay 000's extra for example?)

Did anyone get anywhere bargaining?

Looking at spending 20-25k (with structural wok, appliances etc). Any other big names we should be looking at? (Was thinking of Wren but not after the recent thread on here!!)

Thanks

I had a wicks kitchen, would happily go back there. Quality was good in my opinion and cupboards were a good size for modern living. I probably paid over the odds for the cooker and fridge freezer etc, maybe shop around for them? And the fitting service/option I wouldn't use again. I'd get my own.

The last two kitchens we bought were from Wickes. Had no problems at all with quality etc. would defo go for another-actually in the market for one ATM-but I don't particularly like any of theirs at present. Their fitters cost£££

agree about their fitters ...going to talk about it on my thread tomorrow..so others can be warned ..

We are currently choosing between wickes and Ikea.

I really like a specific one in Wickes but I really like the idea of the black-brown carcasses which Ikea do so I'm stuck!

Basically place marking.....

It may be down to the individual stores, but I experienced some really shoddy customer service from Wickes in relation to getting a bulk delivery from them about 18 months ago.

Basically, I ordered something on the basis of a very carefully checked agreement in store that it could be delivered on a particular day. They then called me two days before saying they wanted to change the delivery date- for no reason other than convenience to them. When I insisted on sticking to the original agreement they said they would send it as agreed. They failed to deliver as agreed and blamed me for missing the delivery (not true, I had been in all day). When the goods finally arrived a few days later, I discovered that they had not previously attempted delivery, but had lied, and blamed it on me to cover up the fact that they couldn't be bothered to send it out as originally agreed. I never got a proper apology and lost two extra day's work (I'm self employed).

I had one done a couple of years ago. Kitchen was fine, fitters were expensive and mediocre and although they cleaned up the obvious stuff were lazy about it under units. Another time I would go independent and get a few quotes. I had no problems with delivery. Definitely bargain, I did and wonder if I could have done more. That said, might try IKEA next time anyway.

We've had two from Wickes quite recently. The quality was fine, and the price was good (with discounts - agree with haggling). We didn't use their fitters, though, as they were expensive. Our salesman was an ex fitter, and he was very helpful too - guess that depends on the individual store. We had no problem returning unused items. Thistledew's delivery experience isn't too good though. We had no problems with delivery.

One thing I liked about them was they had a price list, so pricing was transparent. We chose standard unit sizes to get a good price. Then you can haggle at the end.

Friend of mine has one in a very expensive house - it looks fab! I doubt anyone would believe it came from Wickes. They fitted it themselves though.
