Kitchen Doors and Drawers

The plans have been finalised and there is just one thing left to decide. What should the doors and drawers be made of - Wood or Laminate? If you were putting in a new kitchen now which would you use? What do you see as the pros and cons?

Wood of course has that lovely warm feeling and if you become tired of the colour it is easily changed. The one major disadvantage I see with it is that in a busy house, where maybe things are not always as well organised as they might be and where there are children running about the doors might pick up smudges and marks which may be difficult enough to remove.

Laminate can be wiped over with a cloth and it's clean again, but I don't like gloss finishes they pick up finger marks to quickly. The downside of laminate is that it is an artificial material and if an accident happens it would be much more difficult to put right!

I'd be interested in your views. Have you used wood or laminate and wished you hadn't?

As always many thanks for your views

Kevin

genuine melamine laminate is very durable.

But avoid vinyl wrap, which is rubbish. It will peel off quite quickly if hot or damp, e.g. close to cooker, dishwasher, toaster or kettle, but also the dog's bowl or the cat's claws.

I have even seen it peeling on display in showrooms.

Consider buying a few extra spare doors and fronts for the future.
