Hello
Be grateful for some help in figuring out where to move to. DH works in city. I work pt in farringdon. Don't want to commute more than 1.5 hours door to door so prob 45 max on transport really. Would prefer to be in London but also thinking that would have more space outside of. Have a DS. Will (hopefully) have one more. We have 900k. We are looking for a family friendly area with good schools - both primary and secondary as we would like to stay in one area really. We would ideally like 4 bed but would go for 3. Garden. Period house though don't mind 1930s. Want to be somewhere that has green space nearby and also a bustling high street with things going on. Want the place to feel a bit liberal with interesting independent type stuff going on if that makes sense? Think that's it! Thanks for any help.

Telegraph Hill (SE14- I linked earlier) is dead liberal/artsy

Think lots of goldsmiths students settled there back in the day

Now only bankers can afford it- it's super posh

MargeryDaw - What do you think makes people more liberal, if not education? And what does being liberal have to do with political party allegiance? During its recent spell in power, the Labour party proved itself to be scandalously illiberal and anti-libertarian. This coalition government has been the most progressive for a generation.

Stunned by Alpha's last sentence.

Friend of mine moved to Winchmore Hill (nw London) and loves it. He commutes into Moorgate - think it's on a direct train line. Apparently, big house, nice garden, good schools, lots of families, down to earth.

Btw - I would have suggested around Forest Hill, and was looking (online) around there for similar to what you're looking for. It is me or are the prices actually bonkers? I struggled to find anything under £1 million!

Tunbridge Wells? If you are into grammar schools.

Thanks so much for all ideas. I'm really interested in se London. I know nothing about it at all but guess telegraph hill is a good place to start. I would live to be near woods though so west dulwich sounds interesting too. I've been spoilt in crouch end as had queens woods nearby.

Muddha that house is amazing!! Gives me hope.

Yes I know 900k seems like a lot but then u take a look at rightmove. Ridiculous! I saw a 2 bed flat for sale in crouch end for close to a mill!!!! But still, guess u can still get more than a garage for under 2 mill (I expect well alight about this in 5 years time when u actually can't)

Lewes oh god I would move there in a heartbeat but I think the commute is just too far :-(

Will also look at Hertford too. Bit scary but maybe fear of unknown.

3 Beds, could convert loft with change from £900k. Good commute and schools, not on doorstep of bustling high street

On door step of bustling village with loads of outdoor space in the area and a good commute but not period property

Good commute, schools, outdoor space but centre of Greenwich is 15 mins walk away
