Leaking bath/shower

Help please - water is dripping through the ceiling! after a shower, bath or any water going down the bath! Looking under the bath the water seemed to be be from the edge so thought it was the sealing but now think from reading it is the waste pipe? (as have tried washing hair over bath and 'crouching' in shower! and the water has still leaked). Will be relocating the bathroom in a few weeks anyway but need a fix in the interim! Had a new boiler fitted and the problem seems to be since then, the fitter I'm sure installed a pipe to the waste from the boiler?

is it a pop-up waste?

Thank you for your reply PigletJohn. No it's not a pop-up waste (have just googled to find out what this is! we have a standard plug hole with the plastic 'stopper' on a chain not a pop-up silver one in the drain pipe).

I suppose you could try tightening the various joints, if they are the type with a large serrated nut. Loosen them one at a time and verify the pipe is pushed well into the fitting, then retighten. Rubber gloves will help you grip. You may see a sort of screwdriver slot in the centre of the plughole. Tighten it with a large screwdriver. Feel the bath overflow. The chrome part inside the bath screws into a plastic fitting out of sight. It should feel quite tight. If you use great force the plastic thread will break.

If condensate from the boiler is dripping, it will eat through concrete or mortar as it is somewhat acidic.

You can twist kitchen roll into a rope and tie it round all the joints, to see where it gets wet.

If you have room, put a plastic tray under the waste to catch the drips.

Meanwhile ask around for a competent local plumber. An old one will do.

You can put a skewer through the plaster ceiling to let any water drip out, otherwise it may form a puddle and cause more damage. It is easy to repair and redecorate a small hole later.

BTW pop-up wastes always leak, eventually.

Thank you PigletJohn. I just had a look under the bath and a screw thing (white plastic) was loose, tightened it but running the tap found the water is leaking from the other side of the plug hole! The pipe seems tight enough though so maybe it's just a worn part. The tray idea is excellent, unfortunately the bend of the pipe is just ml off the floor so the tray won't fit underneath it. At least I know where the water is coming out from and at least it's not from the boiler pipe which I'm pleased about. I've tightened the screw in the plughole (although doubt this will do much). Will get a plumber to fix it now! (was hoping to be able to leave it until a few weeks when the bathroom is re-done - being relocated to the next room but don't want to cause damage to the kitchen). Thank you very much for your help though.
