Renovating an oak dining table

It's about 10 years old and varnished. Top is covered and covered in cup marks and wine stains.

What do I need to do to make it look nice again. Presumably sand then wax or varnish?

I've just bought an antique oak table, and am going to follow this guidance, as it aligns with what I have read elsewhere www.ebay.co.uk/gds/Antique-Furniture-RESTORE-it-DONT-Refinish-it-/10000000003647172/g.html

My kitchen table was badly French polished. I scrubbed it hard with wire wool and a cleaning product I had in the cupboard that said NOT for use on polished surfaces. And I scrubbed it again, then washed it down, and oiled it with lemon oil, before finishing it with carnauba wax. It looks much better. Every week or three I re-oil it quickly.
