Where do all you stylish people buy your vintage furniture?

The title of the thread says it all really! I love vintage style and furniture, but until now have not had the time/money to buy much. Seem to have reached my forties without having much nice furniture to my name, with far too much IKEA instead. I would really love to start to get some nice pieces of furniture together now, but have no real idea where to start. I'm based in Yorkshire but soon to relocate to the East Midlands if that helps. Would be grateful for all you stylish Mums out there to share any shopping tips ??

Try your local fb selling pages. I got a retro 70's possibly early 80's fabric couch with wooden cup/ashtray holder (you know the sort? Mustardy stripy colour with velour texture?) for my sil. It was £20 and looks amazing in her home. I also got a free leather couch and oak sideboard for £40. It's hit and miss. If you see something you like that has attracted lots of attention don't be afraid of messaging the seller and offering a bit more and immediate collection. :o

FB local selling pages? I've never heard of such a thing! How do you find that? Do I need a 9 year old to help me?

Just search the terms buy, sell, swap with your town name. Something will pop up. If not just ask your friends via a status like my friend did. Once you find something fb will recommend more pages with a similar theme. Happy hunting! :o

Sorry if this is derailing a bit - but whenever I've looked into having sofas etc reupholstered it always seems incredibly expensive - more than buying decent stuff new. Am I going about it the wrong way? I often see bargainous things at auction but am put off by the cost of re-covering.

Decorhate · 27/10/2016 12:51

Reupholstering is expensive because good quality fabric is expensive plus the number of hours it takes. It's only cost-effective if the sofa or chair is top quality. If your budget is more Ikea, you are better off buying new.

BrillianaHarvey · 27/10/2016 14:19

That confirms what I thought. I wouldn't say my budget is IKea, but my vibe is that you have to go seriously top end for reupholstering to be worth it.
