Underfloor heating wattage

hello fellow wise Mumsnetters,

Am currently having my bathroom renovated and would like to have underfloor electric heating (the mat kind) installed under some kind of limestone tile. The area will be 1.8m x 1.4m, and there will be a heated towel rail too. Could anyone advise what wattage I should go for? From what I've read 200W and upwards seems to be used in larger areas like conservatories etc, so would 150w be sufficient?

Am trying desperately to conserve money and ebay do some great sets that include everything, including the thermostat.

Thanks!

Hi

I've got electric underfloor heating in both bathrooms under limestone.

I've got 100w mats but both bathrooms have radiators connected to central heating.

If the electrical UFH is going to be your only heat source, I'd consider at least 150w but 200w would be better.

If you also have central heating/towel rails then you don't need so much power from the UFH.

The figures you mention are a tenth of what you need to warm a room in winter.

An aside here - but whatever you have fitted then make sure before they start that whoever does it is a properly qualified electrician - check the various sites that record registrations. Had our bathroom refitted last year and underfloor heating put in. The fitter assured me he was fine to install it - stupidly I did not follow up. Found out after that he did not install properly and have had to have someone else in to sort out the situation. His work failed inspection on 14 counts - 7 of which were potentially dangerous.

Agree with piglet, 150w is a large light bulb, that's all.

A few candles would make more heat !
