Would you fill this narrow 60mm Gap in your Bathroom?

Hi,

We have been asked by the workmen if we
want to leave a gap of 60mm between the
gloss vanity unit and the bath or have it
closed?

Would love to hear your opinions.

Would you fill this narrow 60mm Gap in your Bathroom?

What are they suggesting they fill it with? It will be a bugger to clean the gap, but will look odd if it isn't filled. Can either the bath or the vanity unit be moved so they but up to each other and make it neater?

NannyAnne · 12/03/2015 19:22

The bath cannot be moved, if the vanity unit is
moved over there will be the same issue on the
other side - a 60mm gap between the vanity unit
and the wall.

I think the suggestion was to close the gap and
have it tiled over. Not sure if a slither of tile will
look good.

Fill with timber painted in gloss/whatever matches vanity? You're right, the sliver of tile will look ick.

RandomMess · 12/03/2015 19:27

How about have the gap on the other side and a towel rail thing so the towel hangs partly in the gap?

PausingFlatly · 12/03/2015 19:31

I did that.

Turns out the (external) tiled wall was a condensation trap, causing any towel against it to be permanently soggy in winter.

RandomMess · 12/03/2015 19:33

TBH I would probably just live the gap, have the vanity unit positioned centrally in the space!

TheCrowFromBelow · 12/03/2015 19:36

Fill it! It will fill itself if you don't, grot, dust, things that fall off the sink. Not tile though - Pausing's idea is good.

Bert2e · 12/03/2015 19:44

I'd fill it - a fillet of plastic would be good.

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 12/03/2015 20:15

The first time your toothbrush falls down there you'll wish you'd filled it!

You could use mosaic tiles if you want to tile it, otherwise just painted wood should look ok.

MILdesperandum · 12/03/2015 20:27

Would it be possible to move the vanity over and build out the wall on the right hand side - so it could then be painted to match in with the other walls?

RandomMess · 12/03/2015 21:17

Order a wider sink & unit GrinWink

Quitelikely · 12/03/2015 21:21

Fill it!

Do not leave it as others have suggested, it won't be a good look and looks like poor or unfinished work to me.

You won't regret it Smile

Thank you for all the great replies.

I like the idea of mosaic tiles, I will have
a look to see if there is anything to match
the wall tiles. Otherwise it will probably be
painted wood.

Hi NannyAnne - I know this is some years later but did you resolve this? I have exactly the same issue with same dimensions. I’d love to see the finished version...thank you
