Love, Love, Love my Aga - but more sensible husband wont let me have one in our new home. Its a period farmhouse, hand painted Neptune shaker type kitchen, granite worktops, flagstone floor. Aga would look beautiful

Suggestions please for something looking similarly cosy and lovely.

Does this mean everyone's kept their Aga?

Oooh I'm not much help but I'm watching closely. We have a rubbish Stoves range which we inherited with our house, it does my head in because the 2 ovens are so small i cant fit my oven trays in it

Mulling over catalogues at the moment - Lacanche, Aga, Falcon.

In our last house we had a mercury range which was ok but i would rate their aftercare at all.

Hi Tigerpug, yes looking at those plus Rangemaster Elan & Elise, Redfyre.
I dont want to get it wrong, so was hoping someone could compare an Aga with their new range.

Hi Sunny. I have been looking at the Elise SE but its only gas and I'm a bit hooked on induction now we've had one. It does look like a turkey would fit in it though which is a step up for us!

Hi, I love an aga too; however we have a Falcon range master www.falconappliances.com/products/range-cooking/falcon-1092-deluxe.aspx
It's great quality and falcon are part of the aga group so you can expect the same quality of oven and service that you would expect if buying an aga!

This is top of my wishlist...

Thanks Rum - I suppose nothing is going to cook like an Aga? or give out the warmth. So am I just looking for a heritage styled range with 2 large ovens and 4+ gas burners (actually I do like induction too)

Tigerpug wow, that is beautiful....

We we t for a Stoves Richmond (other end of the spectrum from Aga/Lacanche), based mainly on finance tbh, but also because I realised I was quite happy to ha e a cooker that would 'do' rather one which wows the rare visitors we get around here Grin.
I did hanker after a Mercury or Falcon (our local dealer seemed quite knowledgeable and reckoned the price increase for a Mercury reflected the desirability as a status symbol, whereas the Falcon was more for people who actually cook. Don't know how true that is).
Then comparing the Falcon with the Stoves, I decided I could cope with a different aesthetic if it meant saving ££££!
I did look into Lacanche, when I was still in the mindset of wanting to replace the Aga with a thing of beauty and desirability didn't last long. I came across this site, an oven cleaning business whose owner slates Lacanche as shoddily made and poor value - uess they're the old models made in the original factory inFrance.
Anyway, if money were less of an issue I'd probably go for a Falcon, fwiw. And I don't miss the Aga one bit.

A friend with an unlimited kitchen budget ditched her Aga for a series of domino hobs - induction, griddle and gas wok burner
and then side by side eye level Neff ovens with the slide away doors.
She's happy with her choice.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 10/03/2015 14:52

Yes side by side is a good alternative.

bilbodog · 10/03/2015 21:59

All very well everyone saying his expensive agas are but most other range cookers will only last about 10 years and will then have to be replaced. An aga will go on and on all be it with maintenance every year but you only have it shell out for it once. Love live my aga.

ladybird69 · 10/03/2015 22:05

I loved my range master classic with gas hob with wok burner and griddle and electric ovens. It was beautiful. Miss it now I've moved into modern house :-(

DrElizabethPlimpton · 10/03/2015 22:20

I've have a Mercury cooker which is wonderful and looks rather lovely too.

They are made by AgaRangemaster too.

Freezingmyarseoff · 10/03/2015 23:59

Have you looked at Everhots? Much more efficient than Agas, plus you can control them and they have built in grills. You can even get induction with them. Many people who've also had Agas would never go back to an Aga once they've had an Everhot. They do give out a lovely ambient heat but nothing like an Aga because they're acutally pretty efficient.

And I promise I don't work for them, but I love ours. They are pretty pricey to buy but not as much as an Aga.

If you're seriously interested there are a couple of Everhot FB groups where lots of people will give you the stats on comparing them to Agas.

Sunnyshores · 11/03/2015 08:57

Thanks Freezing, will look at Everhots. I like the modern ranges, but they're missing 'something'.
