easy.

streatley. goring. easy hour to paddington. nice villages. excellent schools. good atmosphere. plenty of culture.

CMOTDibbler · 06/03/2015 19:29

Cholsey?

ThisFenceIsComfy · 06/03/2015 19:30

Swindon

ThisFenceIsComfy · 06/03/2015 19:31

Honestly sounds dire but houses are huge for normal money, it's an hour to Paddington and primaries in Old Town are lovely

BallroomWithNoBalls · 06/03/2015 19:33

Well we have the same criteria and only £350k to spend so I bloody well hope you find something or else we are screwed.

Going to sound silly, but when people say villages, I feel a bit worried. LOVE the idea in principle, but heard negative stories (mostly from MN, to be fair!)...we are a mixed race couple. DH is from North Wales, and, after 10 years, I still get funny looks and comments when we visit...

trust me, there would be nothing to worry about in goring/Streatley. a lot of people come out of town, and Reading is kinda cosmopolitan.

but it is a superb place to live

superram · 06/03/2015 20:25

Hanwell is just doable now-but is rising fast. Hobbayne, st marks are all good primaries with good secondaries too.

superram · 06/03/2015 20:26

12 minutes to paddington, cross rail coming, safe.

GwenStacy · 06/03/2015 20:27

Milton Keynes! 34 minutes in to Euston.

Marmot75 · 06/03/2015 20:31

What about Harrow? The area near Harrow & Wealdstone station isn't very nice but if an hour's commute to Euston is acceptable then you could get the bus from somewhere nearer Harrow town centre or North Harrow.

munchkin2902 · 06/03/2015 20:38

In the process of buying one in Bromley for 550k. You won't get anything decent for much cheaper (we looked a LOT!) unless you go to Sidcup or Eltham and they've gone up by loads there too. We wanted to live in Chislehurst but couldn't afford it Confused

CelticPromise · 06/03/2015 20:42

Yep Harrow. North of Harrow and Wealdstone has got nice bits and it's 15 mins from the station into Euston, 30 ish to Paddington.

Lilymaid · 06/03/2015 20:42

The major problem of Goring and Streatley is having to leave there if you are relocated. It's a lovely place to live.

dododoing · 06/03/2015 20:56

This is in your budget in Goring - www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-31794528.html

Goring is lovely - they do a fab torchlight procession on Christmas eve.

Hobbes8 · 06/03/2015 21:06

You could get the met line from Harrow / North Harrow / west harrow to Euston Square in about half an hour as well. Or go a bit further down that line - Ruislip / Ruislip Manor has good primaries

what about Wantage or villages in the area of Didcot? Didcot is 45 mins from Paddington, Wantage is nice town has well thought of schools otherwise there are lots of lovely villages round there

Elfina · 07/03/2015 13:17

We already live in south London! Would like to get out of the city...

Leighton Buzzard. 35 mins to Euston

HeyMicky · 07/03/2015 19:35

Second Leighton Buzzard. Or actually the villages outside it. Speedy into Euston, MK very handy for shopping. Lots of naice villages, good primaries, grammar catchment if you're north of LB just into Bucks. We bought a huge semi with a big garden in a lovely village for £415k

Littlecaf · 07/03/2015 19:39

Watford! It's got a John Lewis.....

KentExpecting · 07/03/2015 19:49

Ashford, Kent. 37 mins by high speed train to St Pancras, which is almost Euston really.

We have a 5 bed in a pretty village outside of town that would cost around 400-425k at the moment.

Train costs are a bitch though - with parking at the station and a Tube pass you'd look at almost £7k a year. Factor that in!
