Help! Removed paint when taking off boarder!

I thought I'd make a start on removing the boarder from DDs room. It started coming away nicely, then took VAST areas of paint with it Shock

House is only 10 years old and we painted wall in question about 5 years ago. So plaster all in good nick.

WTF do I do now? DH will flip as it looks awful Sad

We are re painting in there any way but dont know how to prep walls from here.
Sorry, I'm really rubbish at this stuff. Need advice before DH gets home (so I can act all cool and have a plan)

not an expert myself but probably just sand lightly to where the bits have flaked off to get rid of any more loose stuff - wipe clean and then paint over?

Do you mean the skirting boards? You can lever them off with a flat tool.

PigletJohn · 06/03/2015 17:31

if you mean a stick-on strip, like wallpaper, clean off all the paste, and apply a very very very thin smear of polyfilla or something, using a wide metal filling knife, and pressing so hard you can almost see through it. Run the knife along so half of it is on the paint and half of it is on the wall. It will then smudge into the ridge where the paint stopped.

Next day you can wipe it lightly with extra fine sandpaper wrapped round a sponge, pressing no harder than if you were washing a window, wiping the paper along the join, not up and down and never in circles.

You will have to apply a couple of mist coats to seal the absorbent filler before repainting.

Yes I mean stick on strip type thing (which is being a b*h to remove).

It looks like it has lifted some of the paint but not removed it. Would you remove this paint?

It's big patches....ergh!

if it's loose enough to scrape off, do. If not, don't.

Was it bare plaster that you emulsioned? Did you do mist coats, or put glue on it?

We painted over the existing paint the boarder has taken ours and the previous paint with it to leave just plastered wall

I agree with pigletjohn, would rub down the edges of the paint and then fill in where border was with fine surface filler, smoothing with wide scraper and rub down next day ready for repainting wall. Spend a lot of time sanding down and after painting it should be un-noticeable.

RoganJosh · 07/03/2015 17:51

Are you sure you don't want a border at all? The easiest thing for me would be to put another one up.

It's taken all bloody weekend just to get in all off! Horrid self adhesive strip!

If I get chance today I will wash off adhesive residue.
Then do I mist before or after fillering?
