If you have a tower unit oven.....

how far away is your nearest work surface, and do you find this a problem when getting things out of the oven? I really like one of the kitchen designs I've been given, but have realised that having a bank of tall units means I would have to turn around and walk several steps to the island to put a hot dish down.

Loads of pictures seem to show these tower unit ovens with no work surface around them, but I'm not sure whether that would be very irritating after a while......

You can't have a tower oven without an adjacent work surface IMO. And my kitchen designer said the same

Adjacent. Essential when taking hot things out IMO.

Mine is a couple of steps away; I have the microwave next to it then the oven then a unit. Works fine.

I have a tower oven and actual never use the worktop nearest to it but always use the one a few steps away.

Works fine for me.

Thanks everyone, think it might be safer to tweak the design to get an adjacent work surface then.

We have a bank of tall units - oven f/f, pul out larders etc, and no adjacent work surface. I turn throughb180° and put stuff down on my Island. It's honestly never been an issue, even with really heavy le creuset casserole dishes.

I do have 2 pairs of very good oven gloves. It might be more of an issue with thin oven gloves.

We had this configuration in a national trust holiday cottage and hated it. Would always want adjacent work surface.
