Tell me what you think of this kitchen - colours

We are moving house in 2 weeks and I am trying to design my dream kitchen.

This isnt the kitchen I have chosen, but I am thinking of dark blue walls/ cream units to look like this, although a little less country kitchen. The room is big, with plenty of light due to windows on 2 sides.

The room has very high ceilings and is huge - dark colour works okay. In a smaller space I think it would close it in. Greeny blue might work better?

I think that could look lovely on a sunny day but less welcoming in the evening/under artificial light.

Agree would still be dark unless you have particularly high ceilings.

It looks like a kitchen for public consumption. Huge, high, formal.

To make it home -scale, I'd knock back the blue to a less imposing shade and have a friendlier colour floor.

The basic principle is interesting and fun.

I'm dubious indeed about having chandeliers in a kitchen which actually involved cooking. They'd get filthy, woukdnt they?

I know you were asking about the colour scheme, not the floor and chandeliers. But actually the whole look is affected by each component.

For example, have you got wood framed windows? If yours are white, the blue will look different. It will look less "statement" and more ordinary.

Agree about chandeliers in the kitchen. We have two sets (legacy of previous owners) and they are a PITA to clean. It's a 2 person job every few months - taking every bit of glass off carefully, washing it, and putting back. I'm terrified of breaking a bit.

sorry but I find the dark blue too dark. My favourite colour combination at the moment is white and green - i use DH White which is a dulux mix and F & B Churlish Green - I love it.

flipchart · 26/02/2015 13:04

I love it and think its a great combination.

CrapBag · 26/02/2015 13:14

Personally I think the blue is far too dark.

Love the kitchen though.

I love the blue. I have it in my (small, dark) sitting room.
Keep the floor light, the units white as opposed to cream, and wooden or white granite/Quartz worktop, and ensure you have ample lighting.
Blue can be very dramatic when it's this dark, everybody slated my choice before, during and after for a while until we got the wood floor and glass lights in, now it looks utterly amazing. It totally comes in to its own in the evenings, but is also calming in the daytime.
You have to be able to pull the whole look together.
