Replastering over damp bricks - can we?

We have had a chimney stack removed - it was redundant, badly capped off, pointing gone and letting water down the flue into a bedroom. The stack has been removed to below the roofline and the roof re-battoned, felted and tiled. DH hacked off the damp old plaster on the breast and the bricks don't look that wet but a cheap damp meter is registering damp still (obviously) and you can see some markings of where the water has been. Our plasterer suggested dry lining that wall, then replastering and skimming over the rest of the room. He is booked to do it this weekend. My longwinded question is, do we have to wait until the bricks are completely dry before we plaster?

I asked the same q a few months ago. We bought a dehumidifier to ensure the room is as dry as possible before we replaster. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/property/a2248729-Drying-a-damp-wall-before-replastering

Ok thanks. BoftheP sounds like you pretty much had the same problem. I am guessing it is sorted. How long did you use the humidifier for?
