I have messed up the woodwork in our house

A few months back we decorated a few rooms in the house. I painted the window sills, skirting boards and doors/door frames with Crown breatheasy paint (I was pregnant at the time so didn't want to use gloss). Stupidly I didn't prep the surfaces first, other than washing them down. I believe I should have sanded them a bit (but not completely down to bare wood?).

Anyway, now bits of the new paint are flaking off, eg if the vacuum cleaner hits the skirting board. It is also happening on the staircase which was painted with gloss by "professionals", who didn't sand it down first either. Actually that's even worse as some of the corners had paint chipped off down to the wood, and quite a lot of the new paint has now chipped off in the same spots.

So what is best to do now? Should I completely remove all paint, or just the paint I put on and how? Any help would be welcome. It feels like a big job at the moment.

I find it is pretty easy to chip woodwork with the Hoover, however well prepped and painted. I would just touch it up for now until you are ready to decorate the rooms fully in the future. If the paint has chipped down to the wood, then apply a primer undercoat with a small brush and follow that once dry with gloss or satinwood paint to match the rest.

I don't often sand woodwork down and honestly I haven't noticed it wearing less well. If you use quality paint and apply a couple of coats it should be fine.

Incidentally when we were growing up my DF was very house proud and would go mad if we chipped the woodwork round the house. I found a bottle of Tippex came in handy! Other liquid paper products are available Grin

Thanks, I will try touching it up. I almost wish I hadn't bothered in the first place!
