Offer on house before selling own?

I've seen a house i love that i want to offer on but I've not sold ours yet. We've been on the market since Friday and had 6 viewings and two more booked.

Can i put an offer on the house we want our do we need to sell first? Is it likely it would just get rejected.

It might be considered, and may even be accepted, but I would expect the vendors to keep it on the market. So its rather pointless. If you think your own is likely to go under offer soon, just wait until it has and then offer.

Id register my interest, but they'll say "thank you very much for your interest, come back to us when you are on a position to proceed".

Good luck with finding a buyer.

Sell your own house first. The owners of the house you want to buy will probably not take your offer seriously unless you're in a position to continue.

Might depend on the market where you live. We had an offer accepted before we even had our house on the market (we weren't even looking but it was a 'dream house'). We appointed an estate agent within a week and had accepted an asking price offer on our house days later. But we were in London and the market was moving very quickly.

You can offer, but as others have said, if I were the vendor, I wouldn't take it off the market.

We did this last year. A house I'd been watching on RM had been under offer then became re-available annoyingly just before we had got our project house finished and on the market.

It was a very special house that we really didn't want to miss out on, so we viewed it and made an offer which was declined because ours wasn't yet for sale. We went like the proverbial clappers to get our house finished and on the market asap, all the while keeping in contact with the EA marketing our chosen house (150 miles away).

It took five weeks to sell ours, but luckily the other house was still available and our offer was accepted this time!

You should if nothing else, it will register your interest although they probably won’t take it off the market.

We did when we relocated. We put in an offer in principle which was maybe too generous. But we wanted the house.

They accepted the offer in principle. The house state on the market but they stopped doing viewings iyswim.
Our case was a bit different though as we rented the new house while we waited for ours to be sold as the new one had been a rental property previously.

It took 9 months to sell our old house and complete on the new one. A very stressful time indeed!

we've made an offer and had it accepted but still havent sold ours. 2 viewings in 5 weeks Hmm. Been bugging the EA asthey point the wrong details in the paper. Again.

Thclockstrucktwo · 23/02/2015 16:17

and yes, I'm panicking because the place we've made an offer on is the only one suitable in the entire city Sad
