We are hoping to move to Godalming, more space for our money basically as we are expecting DC1 in May. We have just been to view 2 properties, one in Milford and one in Witley, and the estate agent was saying how we're unlikely to get anything in Godalming for our budget. These villages are only maybe 10 mins drive from Godalming, but there seems to be NOTHING to do in Witley and Milford themselves and with a tiny new baby I don't want to feel isolated. I was really taken with Godalming high st so it would be great to be in walking distance of it. It's a shame that our search doesn't sound promising there.

Does anyone know about baby group/things I could walk to in these 2 villages? I grew up in a tiny hamlet from the age of 7 so I do like rural life, but it's daunting when you don't know anyone there already and I really don't want to feel isolated.
Is Godalming somewhere where if you go to baby groups there, there are people from other villages, or will I be the only non-Godalminger?

The house we saw in Milford was LUSH so if the village isn't too dead we might go for it. Witley house felt very isolated indeed. We were going to view a house in Godalming that looked perfect, was under budget, but was taken off the market this morning. Gutted!

Are there lots of mums and babies about or not really? For context I am mid 20s, DH late 20s and works in East London (will go to Waterloo), 3 bed ideally, budget £450k but ideally less!! Am also worried about DH, he's never lived in the countryside! But he'll mainly be at work.

...have name changed to answer otherwise I would completely and utterly out myself (or alternatively not be able to give a very detailed answer).

Milford is pretty good actually, its a very friendly area. There are a couple of toddler groups, one is on a morning at the baptist church which is always busy, when I have gone I have always been chatted to.

Godalming is such a short drive that you can easily get there to join in with things, you wouldn't be the only 'non-Godalminger'. There are nice walks...its not exactly busy but there are people about to make friends with.

I wouldn't live in Milford without a car ideally, so two cars is a must if your DH needs to drive to the station, alternatively it is not a bad walk.

If the Milford house was really nice then I would definitely consider it...Godalming is nice, but I wouldn't say that it was live-in-a-smaller house nicer.

Weird. Was house hunting in the area myself today. (Have a 1yo)

Shamelessly jumping on in interest. Good luck OP!

Cool! Good luck to you too Tango.

Thanks Lego, that sounds more promising than I thought. We have also decided to consider Farncombe as well as it looks like you can walk into Godalming quite quickly, so that would be nice for the high street.
