floorboards shrinking

We had the floors sanded and re-done this summer.
Now I notice lots of gaps appearing between the individual bits.
We also new windows fitted at the same time, so there is a lot less condensation and moisture in the air.

Could the floorboards be affected by that, it could it be that the what the floor people used was very drying, or what is going on?

wood shrinks as it dries.

UK houses are usually drier in winter, because the heating is turned on.

I am glad to hear your house is no longer damp.

Thanks, definitely better with the new windos, but I've had the floors for over 15 years now and the shrinking only appears worse now, so it's really puzzling.

Same here, sanded and filled spaces in summer and now there are lots of gaps again. One of those things with wood i guess, I just assumed it had to do with the weather being dry or wet, house built on clay. Heating as mentioned above. In your case the moisture in the air. I'm guessing it's not abnormal-but definitely annoying!
