Traditional, Modern, or Conventional Kitchen. What's the difference.

I'm in the process of building a new kitchen; I'm converting a downstairs ensuite bedroom into a kitchen diner so it's almost a blank canvas.

I'm easy about style. At the moment I'm thinking: modern, contemporary, and traditional in that order and I'm wondering from a purely money point of view is there much difference between the two styles as far as cabinets and islands are concerned.

The budget is not overly tight but if there were major price differences then that would have to be a consideration.

how long is a piece of string? You can get all styles of kitchens at all prices! I think you need to decide what type of kitchen to go for then search for companies doing that type of kitchen. If the house is old I would go for a more traditional, in-frame design, painted doors etc. I know glossy units are in fashion but I can guarantee the shiny doors will show every finger mark! Look on Houzz.com to get some ideas of what you like.

Let Houzz be your friend here and like bilbodog has said it all varies and realistically you've got to be a little more set with the style first and then do some more research.

Prices vary as it depends on who you buy from, will it be bespoke or not, what brand if its not bespoke, the finishings and fixtures and the list really goes on.

I'd say this - check out plenty of pictures and you'll instantly decide what style you like and what you don't like. Narrow it down further with colours and then keep narrowing down until you get to a desired kitchen from there you can just speak with kitchen designers and get quotes etc.

It's a bit of a process but in the end it'll be worth it if you take your time and think it through.
