Is it wise or unwise or not an issue to buy a house opposite a park?

My first thought about houses near parks used to be - how lovely! What a great view!

Now I think - Hmmm teenagers / drunks...

Is it a bad idea to buy a house that looks onto a park but has a road between it and the park? Are there any safety concerns? Or is there just nothing to worry about?

I realise precise details of the park would probably help here for a true answer so I'm just looking for generalisations...

We back on to a small-ish park (about 12 houses wide) and love it. The only disadvantages are the footballs that don't come over - the kids always think they've come into our garden, but they've actually gone into a neighbour's garden - and a bit of teenage noise on summer evenings. Nothing major.

But I suspect that a lot depends on the general area. Ours is very naice.

Definitely check crime stats for the area.

We live 2 minutes away from a really quiet one. Top of our road and up a few steps. It is mainly used by people exercising dogs, but has a small play area which is used occasionally. There are two much bigger and better (for kids) parks another couple of streets away which are much more popular with older, mainly well behaved dc, including ours. Never had any problems or noise from any of them, nor seen litter etc.

Thanks for all your advice! I now feel much happier about the idea of living near a park though I don't think we will go for this particular house.

It looked amazing online but had security issues out back and the finish was pretty poor and not as per photos! Usual stuff :)

Our park gets groups of teenagers hanging out in the summer and it's noisy at curfew time with shrieking and carrying on in the streets. Also lots of dog poo as everyone goes to the park to walk their dogs.

We live in a bungalow backing onto a large park with sports fields and play equipment, it's fine and we've never had any problems. We do have a big fuck off dog that barks at the slightest thing though.

My parents have a park at the end of their road and I have two words for you

Dog shit

MILdesperandum · 15/02/2015 15:10

I was looking at this but perhaps its not available in all areas?

bexster5 · 15/02/2015 19:30

Wow MILDesperandum that is a brilliantly useful map! Thank you! It is available for my area and clearly I am useless at internet searches as I hadn't managed to find anything like that. Which is really pretty shameful as it is on the Police website :$
