Would you buy a house with a swimming pool?

One of the houses we're looking at has an outdoor pool. I'm sure the price is higher to reflect this, but we don't really want a pool, especially an uncovered outdoor one. It just seems like a rather expensive waste of space for the handful of days you'd get use out of it in this country. Not to mention the safety aspect and maintenance costs.

But it seems a bit daft not to buy a perfectly good house just because it's got a pool. Confused

And is it a proper pool or an oversized paddling pool so to speak?

I would say that anything smaller than 20mts in length isn't going to be much of a swim so if you're swimmers then its probably better to not bother with it.

What are the running costs? Anyone have any rough estimates?

I'm just being nosey! Smile

quite a danger with small children around. Also for dogs - knew someone where they lost the dog for two days. It had slipped under the pool cover...

in the UK an outdoor pool reduces value.

My friend has an outdoor, heated pool.

It is a big commitment in terms of costs of heating, maintenance and repairs and they had to get it fenced in when the children were younger. But they use it a lot, and her children are fantastic swimmers. I like it when we get invited round to swim too!

We're on the South Coast and get a fair bit of decent weather to use it.

Meant to add, we were also on the S.Coast and several of DS's school friends had outdoor pools - these friends tended to be extremely popular in the Summer months.....

Do think it depends on location/age of DC etc.....
