Anyone living on weird sounding streets/areas

We are thinking of putting an offer in on a house.. but it's on a road called 'Snatchup'.. Would it be wrong to not buy a house just because of the streetname..

Does anyone else live on weird named streets/areas and does it bother you??

Crotch Crescent in Oxford ...

RubyFlint · 10/02/2015 00:36

There's a lovely village called Crapstone and another called Chipshop near us.

In Edinburgh there's a Cockburn Street. Pronounced Co-burn but the tourists don't know that...

there's a slag lane near here. always stifle a giggle

My Granny lived near Pratts Bottom Grin

There is a suburb not to far from us called Cinderella. Dd always claimed that she should live there when she was younger.

I have Jane as my voice on the Garmin, she is so British and posh. We don't live in UK so the pronunciation of some of the street names she says, it really quite funny.

When we moved to this area we saw a lovely house but it was on a road called Sluts Hole Lane. Couldn't buy it. I'd never be able to tell anyone my address!
I used to live on a Butt Lane years ago though.

Arkkorox · 15/02/2015 05:25

There's a place near guildford called Christmas pie!

noitsachicken · 15/02/2015 05:30

There is a Catbrain Hill not far from us, and elsewhere a Cock road where apparently a famous porn star lives!

NoPowerInTheVerseCanStopMe · 15/02/2015 05:57

RubyFlint you're near me then! I was about to mention Crapstone.

The Butts or Butts Lane are fairly common because they refer (I think) to archery targets and date back to when villages had longbow men who practised in an area called "The Butts".

My PiL have a park near them called "Gobbler's Knob" with a great big sign saying "Welcome to Gobbler's Knob". Not in this country though.

There's a place we drive past called Clitheroe which I can't help but read as Clit Hero. Yesterday we went along Willy Lane (it was long and bendy).
Not quite the same but when we bought our house OH was a little gutted it's second in a row of terraces rather than at the end. His surname is Bell and he genuinely wanted to call it Bell End

RaphaellaTheSpanishWaterDog · 15/02/2015 12:47

We were driving through the outskirts of Wolverhampton yesterday and we went past a Cockshutts Lane, lol!

Have never lived anywhere with a rude name personally, but a few years back when we lived on the South Coast and DH was working in interior design he had a client who told him their address was Fuckin' Hell Close (cue pissing himself laughing) or at least that's what he thought they said.....it was actually 4 Kinnell Close, they just had an odd accent! We still laugh about that today.....

Most of the people who say they rent houses opposite Padstow say they are in Rock, but actually the bulk of the village is Splatt and Pity Me

Everywhere in the Piddle Valley in Dorset has daft names

TalkinPeace · 15/02/2015 14:42

Golgotha will soon have its own Parish Council by the way

Marmitelover55 · 15/02/2015 16:02

A friend of mine lived on Cemetary Road and was very pleased one day to hear from the council that the name was to be changed. Her excitement was short lived though when she found out it was to be called Cemetary Road South Sad
