Urgent question on price of screed

JugglingChaotically · 26/01/2015 21:40

We have quote to screed our new basement floor (over underfloor heating)
£2500
It's 8cm deep and 40m2
The builder contacts it out.
Won't let us pay direct
Think there might be a hefty mark up on this as he knows we are in a tight spot on timing
Anyone know.
Surrey/london borders if that helps.

Any builders out there?
Or anyone who has had this done recently?

Not a builder, but am in the flooring trade, although no expert in screedng,
but , a coarse screed, covered by a levelling compound I would have thought to be around £25-£30 per sq mfr +VAT,

JugglingChaotically · 26/01/2015 22:31

Thanks for that.
Looks like they have doubled it then. ??

Had two floors done. Can't recall price but nothing like that

JugglingChaotically · 26/01/2015 22:50

Thanks Blue
It's a new basement so the screed is 8cm thick ontop of underfloor heating.
Thicker than normal but I was shocked.

DH says that quote is way too much, definitely a mark up on it!

JugglingChaotically · 26/01/2015 23:08

Purplepingu. Tks.
I don't mind a reasonable mark up but how bad is this?

Can anyone give me the name of company that does screening in Surrey/west London borders so I can call them and check??

We have used rated people on line a few times. Good to get a few quotes and found some very good people

JugglingChaotically · 27/01/2015 09:13

Thanks
What category would screeding be?
Silly q - sorry.

Sorry Juggling I forgot to check back for replies! I asked him and he said he would have thought you'd be looking at £1500 max, but we are up north so I don't know if it would work out cheaper up here.

PigletJohn · 01/02/2015 16:42

it is a basement, I wonder if it needs to be barrowed in.

A company which provides readimix and a concrete pump would be preferable, and there is much less work. You would need space and parking for the large vehicles, possibly a parking permit.

We are in Gloucestershire and have been quoted £20 sq m +VAT for about 60mm depth of liquid screed. Remember too that liquid screed has a much, much quicker drying time than traditional screed.
