Water rises upto near rim of bowl. Can I throw some liquid unblocker down or will that ruinthe macerator?

Noooo, don't put chemicals down it. You will need to disconnect it and manually remove the blockage or even better call a plumber!

chancer2014 · 24/01/2015 22:29

I had this idea that plumbers don't really like to sort out macerators... too dirty a job. Dd1 swears she hasn't put anything 'untoward' down there.

there are a small number of plumbers who are prepared to work with macerators.

They lead sad, lonely lives, shunned by others, in their large mansions.

StuntBottom · 24/01/2015 22:34

Ours did this because one of the DCs had put too much toilet paper down. Our plumber had some sort of liquid that he poured down, left for a very specific number of minutes and flushed through. Worked a treat, but I think it only works if the blockage is ordinary loo roll.

mindalina · 24/01/2015 22:36

we think our two yr old put baby wipes down ours. we just bought a new one. sorry

chancer2014 · 24/01/2015 22:43

I wonder what the liquid was to dissolve? If it's loo roll, won t it just disintegrate over time and flush? Dreading having to pay a huge plumber bill Hmm

No idea what is was, I'm afraid. I think the plumber called the manufacture who suggested it. Ours wasn't completely blocked, though. The macerator would start by itself and then regurgitate dirty water. Didn't fill the toilet to the brim but higher than normal level.

RaphaellaTheSpanishWaterDog · 24/01/2015 23:42

DH disconnected the one in the ensuite in our last house and (having donned rubber gloves and a white protective onesie, lol!) unblocked it himself. Typically this happened a couple of days before we completed on our sale and I was too bloody mean to call out an expensive plumber as we'd doesn't too much on the place already and I was convinced we'd have to fork out for a new one.

Think ours was caused by posh quilted loo roll!

No more macerators for me......

RaphaellaTheSpanishWaterDog · 24/01/2015 23:43

spent not doesn't......blooming autocorrect!

PigletJohn · 24/01/2015 23:45

Better a bucket in the garden than a macerator.

MrsCosmopilite · 24/01/2015 23:51

Ours did this a few weeks ago. It was because DD had turned off the macerator when she used the loo (she hates the noise) and forgotten to turn it back on. The toilet then got used a few more times before anyone realised.
We managed to flush it a few times with the macerator switched back on and it cleared itself. I did have to mop the floor though...

PigletJohn · 24/01/2015 23:53

surely you mean "DD did have to mop the floor though"

MrsCosmopilite · 24/01/2015 23:59

She's only just turned 4; she'd have mopped the walls with the cat or something, PigletJohn Wink

ah.

Maybe next time.
