Kitchen tiles - like or not?

I have installed a white modern German kitchen. Handle-less, contemporary, sleek are words that would describe my kitchen. I have wooden floors in country oak.

I'm wanting a 'wow' factor splashback across two runs of kitchen walls (2.5m and 2.8 metres long - so it'll be a feature that will be prominent.

I want tiles that will have longetivity but I wouldn't mind something unusual too....

Do you like these tiles which are patterned

or these metallic brick shaped ones?

Any other suggestions are welcomed.

Many thanks!

I think the first ones will just make your kitchen look dated - like as 1960s one that's not moved with the times I'm afraid. The second ones are better. What about a stainless steel splash back behind the hob?

Ha ha - a couple of posts up thread have raised a smile: I had herringbone metro tiles (white Matt) in a kitchen which was put in ten years ago. I think that's a really classic design - it's using brightly coloured tiles that could date it.

Thanks everyone. I have a stunning cupcakes wall mural in my kitchen and that is already a wow wall.

OK, I've now decided and will go with a titanium glass splashback behind hob (easier to clean than stainless steel!) and white herringbone with grey grout. Classic. I do love love pattern but I can't afford to have dated tiles. I'm going to be in my house a long time!

Ooh - the splash back sounds fab. Please post a photo when it's finished.

I will do!!

Ah if you already have one eyecatching wall in the kitchen then I'd definitely go plainer for the splashback. Herringbone white tiles sounds like a good option, plain without being boring.

OP, I am at precisely the same stage as you. We are/were planning on glass. Now I have used the kitchen a bit I am definitely not having glass behind the hob as it will be greasy after every single use and need polishing.

I went to a posh tile shop yesterday and saw some lovely glass mosaic tiles which I will use there. In fact I love them so much I might do the whole thing in this finish. It's a bit shiny and glitzy but in a mother of pearl way. The surface isn't completely smooth so will be much more forgiving with marks or splashes.

What a find. ALLLL so much better than the first one. personally I like 1 best. I also like some of the green ones on their site. Getting a white gloss kitchen soon myself so might be back to look at them.
