A loft conversion question

I live on an end terrace two bedroom house and ideally we'd like to extend into the loft at some point. However that won't be for a little while. One of the houses on the row has had it done quite nicely (I've been up there for a nose around :) ), but our house, being the end one, is built a bit differently (gables and stuff are different).

So my question is...does anyone know if you can companies in to have a look to see if it is feasible and for quotes and so on, but not actually have any intention of doing it for a couple of years? Basically we're waiting until we have reduced our mortgage payments after the current two year term, and then maybe another (unless we win the lottery in the meantime). Would they give quotations for free under these circumstances?

Of course! We are looking into converting our loft at the moment and have had three companies come out to give us an idea of the kind of thing they'd do. All very different and identified different problems so definitely worth doing. We did this last year and only considering actually getting it done seriously now that we have saved some cash

The only people who often need upfront paying before they even walk into your house are architects - and even then, we have had several round without paying a penny.

Look at getting specialist loft companies, local builders and also architects round to give you their informal opinion and advice. They all have different views on lofts.

OK, thanks! I'm really excited about the thought of doing it, but in reality, it will be a long time before we actually can get it done.

Should I have put "lighthearted" in that? I wouldn't really bump them off etc.
