Mid-century replicas

I recently moved into a 1960s townhouse and would like to buy some era appropriate furniture. Sadly our budget doesn't stretch to the real deal so we're thinking about replicas. Can anyone recommend a company with high-quality products? I bought some kids' Verner Panton chairs from Vita Interiors and they were flimsy and pants.

Also what do people think about the Eames DSW chairs? I see a handful of them every time I buy a design magazine so a bit too cliche perhaps? On the other hand they seem really practical with small children around (we have upholstered dining chairs at the moment and they are stained with snot and mucus...)

For something more authentic and affordable, some great 60s ercol, G-plan, heals and Danish dining sets can be found on eBay/gumtree. Ok it's a bit of a hunt but...Often these have been really well cared for or restored and the quality is great.

I've been told the craftsmanship and even the lacquers of early ercol is massively better than anything ercol can produce today, and it is cheaper.

Hmmm. I'll try looking on eBay. I did have a look at a couple of vintage shops in London and their stuff was lovely but their prices were .

Gumtree is probably where you will get the best prices. I got a fantastic 60s dining set (exactly the one I wanted in great condition) for about a third of the price a dealer would charge but I was the first to call and view.

The good stuff will go fast as dealers will be scouring gumtree constantly too.

eBay or Gumtree. I have a gorgeous ercol plank table which cost me £150. Loads of other bits for cheapy cheap too. Helps if you search obsessively!

Had never used Gumtree before, thanks for the tips. Just been on ... a few nice Ercol tables. Plus lots of stuff I never knew I wanted, like a 1960s drinks cabinet...

We're more 70's and fell in love with a matching bath and toilet in purple on eBay. Sadly the house fell through. Try reclamation yards or specialist 'warehouses', I know of one in York - where again we fell in love with some putrid orange bar stools!
