Boiler/gas insurance?

I let out a flat and currently have landlord insurance with BG - HomeCare 400. It's been really handy as there have been a few boiler problems and they give an annual certificate. Preimums are now however going up to £57 a month and I am wondering if I can get it cheaper. The trouble is it's so hard to compare what they all cover. Anyone got any recommendations for good insurance?

Have you phoned them and said you are thinking about moving? That usually generates a price reduction. We've been with BG for years and they wanted to put our homecare 200 up to about £25. I didn't want to leave as they've been very good when we've ha problems so I phoned and said I'd leave unless they gave me the price being quoted for new customers. After a lot of negotiation I ended up with the £13 a month plus a £50 excess, which I was happy with.

Are you sure you need Homecare 400? I have Homecare 100 for rented properties to cover the boiler only. I reduced it from Homecare 200 as the annual service engineer told me on annual visit that the only difference is that the radiators will be bled (which I can do myself, or tenants can) and any other problems with radiators i.e. leaks we'd have to pay for ourself. I get a local gas engineer to do the gas safety certificate.

My 100 cover has come up for renewal - up from £14 pm to nearly £20. I've said I'm leaving and it's gone down to £16, which I haven't accepted yet. When I go online I can get same cover for same property for £14.10 so am trying to get them down further.

You can go on USwitch to compare cover in terms of service/price etc.

I was just on to them to tell them I had a more favourable quote and they did bring the premiums down from a whopping £57 a month to £35. But home serve can so exactly the same cover for £18! So I have gone with them. Thanks for your replies.
